I am Martin Bailey aged 36 (and a half) and I will state from the off that I am really a runner and not a cyclist. I have run for Newcastle (Staffs) Athletic Club since the age of 12 and still "compete" regularly. I keep a record of recent training and races on my other blog page which can be found HERE. However last year was tough. I struggled with a nagging Achilles injury on both legs from January onwards and so in desperation to regain some fitness I took to the (basically unused) hybrid bike I had bought the year before and decided to tackle the C2C cycle ride with my wife Julia. Three weeks later we were off and I really enjoyed the experience, BUT........................................................ It didn't really seem like it had been much of a challenge to ride across the country so there and then I decided that End2End was definitely next! Well I was happy to go there and then, but things/life takes a little bit more planning than that and Julia would certainly need more convincing it was a good idea!
So the Summer of 2011 was agreed and I have spent the last six months reading other peoples journal reports and scouring the internet cycle forums for information and advice. Now isn't the internet is a great thing? I feel like I have done the journey already! From finding B&B's in the Highlands of Scotland to dragging the little Google man onto a lane in Devon to see where the cycle path disappears! My what a lot of hours I have invested/wasted* (please delete as appropriate) in our little journey from Lands End to John O'Groats - So please support us by sponsoring us in aid of Cancer Research UK. I am really looking forward to our next adventure and hope that it will be a fantastic experience!
