Day 6: The Five W’s

Wem, Whitchurch, Warrington, Wigan and Wet. It started to rain as we left Shrewsbury at 8.20a.m. - just a drizzle to lull us into a false sense of security. Within 10 minutes it was hammering it down. - Our Christmas gifts to each other of Gortex jackets were a godsend. It was still raining when we stopped for lunch at 1.30p.m. Martin wrung his socks out then put them back on whilst I slopped around with a puddle in my shoe. The rain stopped as we left, we took off the Gortex, it started raining again! The rain finally stopped about 3.30p.m. and the sun came out to play. The route was flat compared to yesterday and we made good time. 85 miles we finally rolled into the Premier Inn Preston around 7p.m. to our final welcoming party - Sophie, Katie and Ian Goodfellow - on holiday in Southport - making a special trip to show us support. Thank you again for your company and dinner - it really helped us keep going in the pouring rain knowing you would be waiting for us. Also thanks to Pam and Malcolm for your generous on-line donation today. Another day ends with us drying kit with a hair-dryer ready to take on Shap tomorrow. Half-way beckons.

Julia
