I competed in the Bristol Downs Sheactive womens only Duathlon at the weekend. A stray e-mail advertising it found its way into my in-tray a few weeks ago and I thought why not! Most of my training has been on the bike and I wasn't doing much running so I thought it would give me a reason to run. I entered the novice distance 5km run, 10km bike, 5km run, did a few run- bike training sessions and off we went. I really enjoyed it. 47th /60. Was pretty slow on the runs - lack of training and my uncanny ability to run at the same speed for one mile as for twenty miles! The 10km bike went really well - I could see the results of all the hours of training - I actually overtook people about ten in fact - unheard of in my running - could get used to it! Thanks to Martin for racing around the course to offer support and encouragement as usual. All in all - a lovely weekend, a bit of light relief from the training, very enjoyable - quite fancy doing a few more duathlons - need to practice the transitions though - I reminded myself of Laura doing an aquathlon when she was 7. She took longer to tie her shoelaces after the swim than it did to complete the run! Back to serious training this week and the Race for Life on Tuesday.
